Neighborhood Meeting 09 September 07A neighborhood meeting was held on the 9th of September and we had an excellent turn-out. These meetings are held to get our neighborhood together, to meet each other, share ideas, to discuss how everyone views our little community/area, and to better find out what concerns others may have about how things are happening and are handled. Everyone in the neighborhood, whether they were a member of the association or not, was ask to fill out what they thought should be addressed as a community to maintain our neighborhood and it standards. The responses were very enlightening as to what others view as areas on interest. We were able to select new officers for the association but as always, some positions are selected by default. Please be aware that an officer is only a person that is volunteering their extra time, to help put together ideas, and is only an extension of what you as the community wants to be accomplished. We hope that each of you will become involved so that together, we will keep our homes as safe and secure as when you made the decision to move into our area – and - to maintain the expectations that were already established for the community. Whether you attended the meeting or not - you are and will continue to be our neighbors and part of this community as a whole. In doing some research at the tax assessor offices, we were pleasantly surprised to find that only about 15% of our homes are rental properties. We had participation and dues paid by some of the landlords. This is always a very good indication that others do notice what we are trying to do. The property values of everyone are at stake here. Please try to become involved in any way you can. Future projects discussed and some planning ideas were:Front Entrance:: Continue the hired lawn maintenance service (about $1200.00 year). To Plant more shrubs in the front (when we can afford it) with more maintenance free plantings. To decorate the front for Christmas again this year and other holidays - if funds are available. Involvement is needed with doing the extra work - please contact one of the board members and offer to assist in some way. Front lights We have checked on putting lights on the front subdivision sign. We have been unable to get DEMCO to come out to give us an estimate on the cost of running electricity to the areas. Solar lights were looked at but have it was found to not be a feasible option considering the cost involved. The existing technology available is still sub-standard to be very maintenance free. Once again, funding for this will be an issue and careful planning will be needed to accomplish this is the future. Neighborhood Maintenance: It is reported that the hole in the back has been repaired one time in the past but it has sunk in again and is now once again barricaded. This has been going on for over a year. We have asked someone to help take this on to make calls to the councilman and DPW to get these necessary repairs done. Also of great concern is the drainage on both sides of Summerwood towards the end going towards Springwood. The streets certainly flood more than they did several years ago and we hope this can prevent some of the flooding we are having now having. PLEASE NOTE: These drains are stopping up for the most part from grass clipping and clutter being blown into the street (which then washes down to the drains). Make sure you use a reputable lawn service that does properly manage this area. If you have a problem working with your present service or locating a service let some of us know. We will be glad to make contact with them to let them know what our neighborhood expectations are. Others areas of concerns and discussions were: (An increase in dues are expected for next year) Security: We have only known of some vehicles being broken into and that is something we all have to work with to prevent. If we prevent this area of security from getting out of hand, we are hopefully keeping it from escalating to home entries. |
Neighborhood meeting took place Sunday, October 12, 2008. Election of officers for the upcoming year was held.Projects for the year were discussed and planned.Elected Officers are: President - Jason Jacobs Co-Vice Presidents - Arne Christiansen, Sam Williams, Glen Vice Treasurer - Phyllis Chapman Secretary - Melody Broussard Topics discussed were: - Lighting for the Front Sign The cost of running an electric line continues to be out of range for the amount of dues we collect. The new officers are going to get estimates to purchase and install a commercial solar pack flood light. It was voted that anything under $1000.00 is approved to install. If cost estimates go over that the officers will hold another meeting to begin another plan, Arne Christiansen will put together some cost estimates and handle installation - Camera Installed The meeting members feel that we could have enough monies in our fund to begin the purchase of remote cameras to be installed in certain areas of the subdivision that could monitor vehicles that come and go into the neighborhood and perhaps record vehicle tag numbers, etc.. Glen Vice will work to get cost estimates and appropriate installation requirements and will work with Arne Christiansen to install if feasible and economical enough in cost. - - Christmas Parade Jason Jacobs has expressed interest each year in having a float or representation in the Jones Creek Christmas parade – Anyone with interest please contact Jason Jacobs. - Food Bank Drives The food drive was very successful last year. We would like to have drive before each major winter/spring holiday in the next year. Geri, Mary, and Glenda will work to coordinate his project. Collection barrels will be located in more areas of the neighborhood this year for more convenience. - House Numbers - Curbside o Spray painting curb numbers was discussed and is funding is available a committee will work to obtain proper material and kits and do the function as a community project. Of course, we will want to do this in the fall and spring before it gets too hot. Arne Christianson will work to get cost together and a project committee will work with him to begin this work if feasible. - Fire Ant Control o It was ask if the neighborhood could participate in a project to treat fire ants. LSU has worked with neighborhoods in the past. The issue is to make contact the LSU departments, arrange for the treatments to be distributed with proper instructions, and coordinate the work. The treatment plan used in the past is that everyone will need to participate and the treatment has to be done 3-4 times in a 12 month period. Does anyone have interest in heading up this project and to follow through with the program?
